The white doves that we use for the white dove releases are actually white racing pigeons, but they are not just any old racing pigeon. Actually pigeons are doves their official name is "The Rock Dove"

White Doves of Melbourne have spent a long time developing our own strain of bird that is most suitable for white dove releases, a combination of two very old imported strains (English and Belgian) of thoroughbred white racing pigeons. The characteristics of the English strain is that they are robust and have great homing / flying skills and are very smart , making them easy to train. The Belgian strain on the other hand are smaller and are very gentle and easy to handle. We found that when we cross breed from both of these strains their offspring  are in our opinion the most suitable for white dove releases, being extremely good flyers but being a little bit smaller than your standard racing pigeon are easy to handle.
